Michigan Public Service Commission considers new transmission lines

Michigan Electric Transmission Company is planning an $850 million transmission project that will aim to enhance the energy grid and support renewable energy initiatives state-wide. A key component of this proposal consists of two high-voltage transmission lines to run through central and southern Michigan.

Developers are planning to seek 200ft easements for the project from intersecting property owners via eminent domain. During a recent public hearing, many residents voiced their concerns over potential property devaluation.

Despite support from Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, state leaders, and environmental advocates who argue the project will improve grid reliability and reduce reliance on fossil fuels, the proposed routes have sparked division among community members.

Troposphere is representing Citizens Utility Board of Michigan in the MPSC case, in support of the new lines.
